For a regularly running public cruise, there’s never a need to pre-book a canal cruise in Amsterdam. There are dozens of companies you’ll encounter, clustered at Centraal Station, on Damrak by Dam Square, at the Heineken Brewery, the Rijksmuseum, Hard Rock Cafe, and the Anne Frank House. They all range in cruises from 60-75 minutes, costing €10-€18 for almost exactly the same product, so be a savvy traveller and choose one with a lower price. In the spring and summer, they depart every 30 minutes until 21:00. In the fall and winter, they are less frequent and run until 17:00 or 18:00 depending on the company.

My favourite canal company? Rederij Kooij, with two locations at Rokin 125 (between the flower market and Dam Square) and one at Amsterdam Centraal Station. A family-run company, they are the oldest in town and keep the prices low to run a clean operation. Tickets are €10,50 per adult.
